The Easter Bunny Came Too...

Autumn in Turangi is Toadstool Time. This one was one of many alongside the driveway.

On Sunday Murray and I went through to Taupo and put the kayaks in the river near the Control Gates Bridge. Fantastic paddling - only problem is that the distance to Reid's Farm, where we came out, is too short to make a day of it.

As we passed the bungy, a couple did a tandem jump. Fantastic site for a jump, if you fancy doing one yourself? Me... I'd rather stick to kayaking thanks!

The colour and clarity of the water is something special. At this point it is really really deep. Next we passed the hot water stream. We had planned to stop there and have a soak but there were so many people there at the time we just floated on by...

At this point we were approaching Reid's Farm. Heaps of people were camping there. Ian picked us up and we went back to have lunch with him and Robyn. Later on Robyn dropped the three of us off at the start of a new track from Whakaipo Bay to Kinloch. It's been built by the mountain biking group but can be walked, so we did - all 14 km of it. That's Ian & Murray near the start of the walk, and a view of Whakaipo Bay where we started about half an hour earlier.

The track itself is not too onerous, being neither too steep or too long, and there are some great views out over the lake. There is a 10.5 km loop track out onto one of the headlands closer to Kinloch, but we didn't go there.

All up, it took us three hours and at the finish in Kinloch, Robyn was there with the campervan and coffee. The autumn colours in the poplars along the lake were stunning.

The Last Days of Summer...

This is a photo taken at the rest area on the hill south of Mangaweka - back at the end of March. It was a glorious day and the countryside looked stunning.

Here I am at Reid's Farm alongside the Waikato River near Taupo - waiting for the kettle to boil.

This is some very arty mosaic work at a place near Acacia Bay called L'Arte. We loved it!

I finally got around to replacing the very faded roman blind in the kitchen with a stripey version. Looks good, I think.
